Elite Javelin Sergeants

Elite Javelin Sergeants are a Heroic Era Tier 4 melee infantry unit specializing in mid-range armour-piercing harassment and solid close-combat performance. They’re unlocked in the Melee Infantry tree for 15 000 Honour (or via 20× Javelin Sergeants Signacula)

Unit Traits

• Javelineers: Can throw javelins via orders and still fight in melee
• Fire-Resistant: Reduced vulnerability to thermal weapons compared to other units of the same era
• Shieldbearers: While using shields, their ranged damage is reduced—manage shield usage to balance melee defence and throwing output

Formations

• Dispersed: Spreads out to reduce incoming ranged damage, ideal for harassing archers and gunlines
• Shield Wall: Tight formation boosting defence in one direction—use when holding ground against melee or charging foes
• Column: Narrow, deep line for concentrated charges through gaps—combine with Double Shot from the front

1. Throw Javelin (10 s CD): Each soldier hurls a javelin at the nearest enemy—basic volley for softening targets
2. Directed Throw (10 s CD): Aim a single javelin at a designated target—high-precision damage for priority enemies
3. Double Shot (45 s CD): Two quick successive javelin throws in an area—excellent burst against clusters or
4. Marksmen (30 s CD): Homing javelin volley at a target—not limited by line-of-sight, good for hitting skirmishers

• Volley Harassment: Open with Double Shot on heavily armoured foes, then switch to Throw Javelin while your frontline anchors
• Mid-Line Support: Use Dispersed to minimize return fire, target high-value units with Marksmen, and sustain through Regeneration under pressure
• Charge Puncture: In Column formation, use Directed Throw to weaken shield walls, then close with melee to exploit gaps
• Counters: Vulnerable to fast cavalry if unprotected—pair with spearmen screens. High-blunt, high-health units can withstand javelins; push veterancy and timing to break them

Mastery & Honour Tree
